This Condom Is For Lovers Of NYC

NEW YORK CITY — Do you love New York City? We mean, love New York City? Then has the Health Department got a condom for you.

And it's just in time for Valentine's Day, because nothing says romance like a city-issued extra large condom with a mustard yellow street map for a wrapper.

"This is a condom by New Yorkers for New Yorkers,” Health Commissioner Dr. Oxiris Barbot said.

The newly NYC Legend XL condom wrapper design launched Feb. 14, which also happens to be National Condom Awareness Day, and will be available at safe sex events across the city.

The launch is part of the Health Department’s NYC Condom Availability Program which makes free safer sex products available at more than 3,5000 locations across the city.

Last year, the Health Department distributed over 31 million condoms and other safer sex products.

Jokes aside, condoms are an important means of protecting yourself from sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV.

"While the condom is new, the message stays the same," concluded Dr. Barbot. "Have fun but remember to use the tools that help you lead a healthier, safer sex life.”
